The majority of coaches and athletes do not have access to the high tech equipment required to measure maximal aerobic capacity (VO2 max) that professionals do. Therefore, we have to find practical ways of measuring an athlete’s fitness across each of the 3 disciplines. This webinar will serve to cover field-based tests from a practical perspective for the everyday coach/athlete dyad. Topics will focus on tests that can be done with minimal equipment and can be used to estimate and track the athlete’s VO2 max or fitness levels over the course of a season or career. These tests will allow the coach to customize training zones for the athlete and tailor training specifically to the athlete rather than using the typical “cookie-cutter” approach. At the completion of this webinar, you will be able to implement a variety of field tests within your athlete’s training, identify which test is best for your athlete, and use these tests to track changes in your athlete’s VO2 max and fitness over the course of a season or career. Todd Buckingham  Todd is a multi-faceted athlete who excels at a variety of events including marathons, triathlons, and obstacle course races. Prior to endurance competition, Todd was a DII collegiate baseball player.  Having recently earned his PhD in Exercise Physiology from Michigan State University, Todd has taught all levels of exercise physiology courses to undergraduate kinesiology students, performed research, and served as the Exercise Physiology Lab Coordinator. Todd’s degree and work in the exercise physiology field gives him extra insight into what it takes to be a successful athlete. Using this knowledge, Todd is able to take the science and make it easy for anyone to understand.  Todd is very family-oriented, often seen with one or both parents and his brother at each of his races. Todd practices the importance of maintaining strong connections with those closest to him and frequently offers advice to those around him, even his competitors! Read More
