Much the scourge of triathletes, cramps can stop everyone in the performance spectrum from those just beginning exercise to the top tiers of elite competition. Recent evidence on how cramps work shows they come from a complex interaction between the health and strength of your tissues, conditioning for the event, and interactions within your nervous system. Once you have a better understanding of what they are, cramps are much easier to prevent. Learn why cramps occur and about the strategies—both common and forward-thinking—that you can implement with yourself and your athletes to keep cramps from ruining your next race or key training session.
