For musician turned triathlete Thad Beaty, “Music That Moves” is the literal summation of his incredible journey thus far. A guitarist who spent the past 9 years with country juggernaut Sugarland, sharing stages with Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney, Rhianna, Beyonce’ and more, as well as contributing as a writer on albums selling upwards of 10 million copies, Beaty traveled the globe for decades on the wings of music. But after his mother’s diagnosis with colon cancer and his own realization that the rock and roll lifestyle had resulted in his own poor health he set out on a new journey to reclaim his own health, the health of his family, and now, a quickly growing community of triathletes all over the world.
Music That Moves was born out of Thad’s journey back to health in all areas of his life. Through the medium of a plant-based diet combined with a goal to compete in an IRONMAN, Thad found himself over 70 pounds lighter and surrounded by fellow athletes and musicians who wanted his help with their own journeys. Never one to do anything halfway, he dove in head first and pursued multiple coaching certifications (USA Triathlon Level 2, USAC Level 2, Training Peaks Level 2, USMS Level 2, Newton Running, Dynamic Movement Assessment,TRX, Spartan SGX, Triathlon Research, and Scheduled to sit for his Nutritionist certification and NSCA CSCS) to better coach the athletes he is leading.
But beyond the physical piece of training for a triathlon, Beaty is equally concerned with the spiritual journey an athlete must undertake to complete such a rigorous training program and finish a race. Every client with whom he works must ask themselves WHY they want to take on the challenge. Their “Why” fuels everything throughout training and Thad’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which they race is just as important as the training itself. Music That Moves is proud to have partnered with St. Jude’s, Ironman Foundation, Melanoma Research Foundation, Musicares, Porters Call, Rock n Roll Marathon Series, Second Harvest Food Bank, Runwell, Move For Hunger, New Life For Newton, and other non-profits to help promote their causes. He is also the acting Team Captain for the Edith Sanford Breast Foundation’s TeamEdith athletes and the Kona Inspired Ironman Foundation programs.
After discovering the niche and passion to affect people’s lives for positive change, Thad was asked to be a celebrity mentor on ABC’s Extreme Makeover Weight-loss Edition, helping to coach and train a participant to complete the milestone of the New Zealand Half-Ironman and the story has been featured in People, Triathlete, Competitor, CNN, Ironman.com, Transform Your Health, AOL, and many other publications as well as on numerous Podcasts and blogs. He has personally contributed to the topics of fitness, health, and a plant-based lifestyle for numerous national publications.
As a coach, Thad has enjoyed working with those who are just starting their health and fitness journey, coaching the NAC strength and track programs, and coaching elite level athletes who are competing on the world stage in the Duathlon World Championships, Ironman World Championships, and state cycling time trail championships, 70.3 Worlds, Duathlon Worlds, Boston and NYC marathons, and several other marquee events. For 2017 Thad was selected as the Head Coach for TeamUSA at the World Championships (Grand Finals) in Rotterdam. This is something he is truly excited and honored to be a part of.
Through years of experience in the recording studio, on the worlds biggest stages both in the arenas of music and sport, Thad sees the connection between being the leader of a company, a producer/musician, and a coach as very harmonious in that whether you are working with your staff, an artist, or an athlete, the goal is simple, you must inspire the best out of your people. His philosophy has always been to provide a safe environment for the artist/athlete to excel on the highest level. Knowing that both the studio and competitive stages are fierce and vulnerable places, the artist/athlete must be empowered and prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally.
